Most blondes assume brassiness is their biggest summer problem.
It's usually not.
In reality, dehydration is often the culprit.
When blonde hair becomes dry, rough, and porous from sun exposure, chlorine, and heat, it struggles to reflect light properly. What many people interpret as "brassy" hair is actually dehydrated hair that has lost its shine.
Before reaching for another purple shampoo, focus on restoring moisture.
One of the biggest mistakes I see is overusing purple shampoo all summer long. While it can help neutralize unwanted warmth, too much can leave the hair feeling dry, dull, and sometimes darker..
Healthy blondes always look brighter than dry blondes.
If your blonde feels off this summer, hydration may be the answer, not more toner.
Brunette Babes.
Every summer, I see brunettes convinced they need more highlights because their color feels dull.
Honestly? Your hair has been through the ringer between summer sun and harsh hotel shampoo…it probably needs richness and dimension built back in.
Sun exposure, chlorine, and hard water slowly strip away depth and dimension, leaving brunettes looking flat and washed out. Before adding more lightness, consider restoring shine and contrast with strategic lowlights, a gloss, and a conditioning treatment.
My favorite brunette hair is never the lightest brunette.
It's the one with the most dimension, richness, and shine.
Extensions? This one's for YOU.
The Biggest Threat to Your Extensions Might Be Your Sunscreen.
Every summer, I have extension guests convinced the pool ruined their hair.
More often than not, the real threat is sunscreen.
Many spray sunscreens can leave behind residue that discolors extension hair, creates buildup, and leaves blondes looking brassy, dull, or even a pinkish orange color.
Steer clear of sunscreens that contain Avobenzone. This one ingredient will ruin your investment in seconds. Your gorgeous extensions could end up completely discolored. Stick with a mineral sunscreen to be safe.
Before applying sunscreen, pull your hair up and off your shoulders and back. Let the product fully dry before letting your hair fall back into place.
It's a simple habit that can dramatically extend the life, color, and softness of your extensions all summer long.
Don't skip your scalp.
Healthy Hair Starts at the Scalp
We spend tons of time protecting our skin in the summer, but almost no time thinking about our scalp.
Sun exposure, sweat, dry shampoo, lake/salt water, pool chemicals, and product buildup can all leave your scalp irritated and congested…creating the perfect environment for itchiness, flaking, and dull-looking hair.
One of the best things you can do for your hair this summer is occasionally hit the reset button. A clarifying or detox shampoo or scalp-focused service can remove buildup, restore balance, and help your hair look and feel its best.
And please don’t forget sunscreen on your part line! Nobody wants a scorched scalp!
We can spend all day talking about color, extensions, and styling…but none of it performs its best without a healthy foundation.
One Last Thing...
Summer should be spent making memories, not worrying about your hair.
